A subway employee dashed to save an elderly man from an escalator fall in central China.

CCTV footage filmed in Wuhan City in Hubei Province on October 19 shows an elderly man pushing a folded wheelchair onto the escalator suddenly losing his balance and appearing on the verge of a devastating fall.

A subway staff member named Guan Zhiping, who weighed just a little over 50kg sprinted forward and managed to steady the elderly man, whose combined weight with the wheelchair exceeded 75kg.

Thanks to Guan, the elderly man was not injured.

In recognition of her bravery, on October 23, Alibaba's Daily Positive Energy initiative awarded Guan Zhiping a special commendation and a cash prize of 5,000 yuan (£563).
