A motorcycle crashed into the back of a taxi in Shibuya, Tokyo on Halloween night, as people gathered on streets to celebrate the event despite restrictions on public gatherings in the area.

The 31 October smash happened on Inokashira-Dori (street) after the bike's young rider attempted a wheelie just as the taxi ahead of him stopped.

From his clothing, it appeared the rider was a member of a bosozoku group, a kind of Japanese biker gang.

This year, Shibuya ward authorities called for people not to come to the popular district on and around Halloween in light of the fatal crowd crush in South Korea last year and to prevent activities they consider disruptive.

A conservative public backlash to past years' revelry is widely thought to have also been a factor.
