Seriously injured Palestinians and hundreds of foreign nationals crossed from Gaza into Egypt on Thursday 2 November.

Beginning on Wednesday, they escapes were the first authorised exits from the enclave after weeks of war.

The foreign nationals headed to Cairo, where some planned to take flights back to their home countries.

Reportedly, they include citizens of Austria, the UK, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Italy, the US, France and Japan, among others.

Injured Palestinians and hundreds of foreign nationals began crossing from Gaza into Egypt on Wednesday, Egyptian officials and media reported, in the first authorized exit from the enclave after weeks of siege.

Eighty-one seriously wounded Palestinians were expected to enter Egypt on Wednesday, dozens of whom have already arrived and are receiving treatment at various hospitals across the country, according to a CNN reporter on the ground. Meanwhile, a spokesman for Egypt's Ministry of Health told CNN that "they are arriving one by one."

More than 360 people with foreign passports also left Gaza through the Rafah border crossing, an Egyptian government official told CNN on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

The official added that dozens are already on their way to Cairo, where some will take flights back to their home countries. Among them are citizens of Austria, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Italy and Japan, the official said.

At least two Americans also entered Egypt, according to family members and aid groups. Several French citizens also left Gaza, government officials said.
