Heroic cop dives into pond to save blind dog from drowning
A heroic cop dived into a pond to save a blind dog from drowning.
A video recorded by a police bodycam shows one officer wading through cold water and finding the dog, which appears to be stuck in reeds.
The distressed pooch was then brought ashore by the officer.
Sparky, an eight-year-old border collie, had fallen into the pond in Baisley Pond Park, New York City.
The New York Police Department received several 911 calls reporting the incident, with the first call coming at 8:18 am.
Officers Williams and Esposito of the NYPD's 113th precinct were at the scene in just minutes and both officers jumped into the pond.
Sparky was taken to a local veterinarian and reunited with its owner largely unharmed by the incident.
The NYPD said on Twitter: "Officers Williams and Esposito from the NYPD's 113th precinct responded and entered the frigid water to rescue Sparky, an eight-year-old blind Border Collie. "
"Thanks to the quick-thinking officers, Sparky and its owner were reunited."
An NYPD spokesperson added: "Upon arrival, officers observed the dog in the pond. "
"Both officers entered the pond and were able to remove the dog."
"The dog was removed to a local veterinarian where he was later reunited with his owner."
