Customs in southern China intercepted a car with £4.5 million worth of hidden gold bars at a border checkpoint.

The video was filmed in Shenzhen City in Guangdong Province on November 1.

Customs officials, their suspicions aroused by the unusual images displayed on the X-ray monitors, delved deeper. Their instincts proved infallible when, upon a meticulous manual inspection, they unearthed a secret compartment craftily engineered within the rear axle of the unsuspecting vehicle. Hidden within this clandestine cavity were pure gold bars—72 in total, weighing a massive 72.00157 kilograms.

The market value of the seized treasure was immediately estimated at a staggering 40 million yuan, roughly equivalent to over 5 million U.S. dollars.

The case has swiftly been transferred to the competent authorities of the customs enforcement division for further processing.
