Wild monitor lizard with can stuck on head rescued by locals
A wild monitor lizard found by a passersby with a can stuck on its head was rescued.
Footage shows the 4ft-long reptile aimlessly wandering in the forest while trash - which used to be a container for sardines - covered the tip of its mouth to the neck in Krabi Province, Thailand, on May 24.
Krirkritsada Thongkaewsawat and his friend followed it around, but it was terrified by people getting too near.
The locals finally cornered and pinned it down before pulling the can off, sending it scurrying away.
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
