Dutch social worker aims to get elderly care home residents active through power of play
Joël Kruisselbrink of Bewegen is Leven (Moving is Life) is a trainer, coach, and social worker who uses the power of play to help elderly people keep on top of their fitness.
He claims that 90 percent of nursing home residents are inactive. The following clips show Kruisselbrink attempting to change that figure.
The social worker is seen using a range of household items to create simple, but fun, games that the elderly residents can get involved in.
"I invite residents of nursing homes to be physically active", Kruisselbrink explains. "I try to do this in a creative way that responds to their interests. What kind of work or hobby do they have? I noticed that they move more with everyday life materials work. Playing is also very important."
