This patient calmly played the piano as doctors carefully removed a tumour from his brain at a hospital in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Recorded on October 25, the footage shows Hari mangal Bharti from Bihar (Buxar) playing the piano and cymbals during his operation.

Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal performed the surgery whilst Bharti was awake to lessen the risk of leaving him debilitated.

Bharti had complained of seizures and doctors identified a tumour that needed to be operated on.

A team of Dr Sumit Raj, Dr Pradeep Chouksey, Dr Amol Mittal, Dr Ranjith, Dr Ashutosh Kaushal, and Dr Anupama successfully performed the surgery.

Bharti is seen speaking to a Doctor after his operation.

"It went really well. I was in my senses while the operation was taking place," he said.

"I was playing a piano and reading a newspaper."

He then explained what he was singing: "Yes I sang the Hanuman Chalisa (a Hindu devotional hymn in praise of Hindu Lord Hanuman)."
