STORYLINE:

Interliber, the largest book show in Croatia, opened in Zagreb Tuesday. The 45th edition of the international book fair has featured over 300 publishers from 13 countries.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Zagreb has a stand here to promote Chinese language and culture. The special topic of this year's Confucius Institute presentation is Italian traveler Marco Polo.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): KRESIMIR JURAK, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Zagreb
"The Confucius Institute always for the last eight years has been coming to the Interliber promoting itself, bringing the visibility of the brand up, but also teaching people about its existence and giving them the opportunity to enroll in many programs, both in the language part and the cultural part of the Confucius Institute. This year the special topic of our presentation, the book fair, is Marco Polo and the book he wrote which basically helped connect Europe and China some 800 years ago."

There are several programs promoting reading in the young age at this year's book fair.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English):  EMICA CALOGJERA ROGIC, Editor-in-Chief of Ljevak Publishing House
"It's very important to promote reading through the programs that are really encouraging reading from the very early days up to the middle school. And the project that we are promoting, Reading in Focus, is aimed for secondary school students."
