Diwali firecrackers sell like hot cakes in Uttar Pradesh as neighbouring Delhi bans them because of pollution
Firecrackers have been selling well for Diwali this year in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, even as -- or perhaps because -- neighbouring Delhi has banned them.
The Indian capital cracked down because of severe pollution made worse by the widespread use of fireworks during the Festival of Lights. But there is no ban in Uttar Pradesh, just next door.
This year there has been a trend for fireworks and firecrackers that emit more light than noise, particularly green ones.
The filmer said that fireworks named after animals and cartoon characters have been a particular hit with shoppers.
