Damage caused by Hurricane Otis, which two weeks ago hit the port of Acapulco in southern Mexico, could reach between 15 and 16 billion dollars, according to estimates by business chambers.

Video shot on 29 October showed widespread damage.

Estimates suggest the overwhelming majority of tourism, commercial and service sector sites in the area sustained some damage, along with homes, electrical, road and telecommunications infrastructure, the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) said in an e-mail.

The CCE, one of the country's main business organizations, cited data from the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur), an affiliated organisation.
