Tens of thousands of Palestinians fled the northern Gaza Strip in just 24 hours, according to the UN.

Most left via so-called humanitarian corridors set up by Israel's military, which is tightening its grip on Gaza City.

Footage shot on Thursday 9 November showed families leaving on foot, while others went by donkey-drawn cart.

The local health ministry, which is run by Hamas but whose numbers are widely considered relatively reliable, says the death toll so far is over 11,000, including 4,506 children.

Several reports suggest that Egypt and Qatar are mediating a cease-fire in exchange for the release of 10 to 15 hostages, half of them Americans.

Gaza health authorities raise the death toll to 10,569 people, including 4,324 children, in addition to 26,457 wounded. Palestinian militia attacks in southern Israel killed 1,400 people, and more than 240 were taken hostage.

The UN confirms that 50,000 Palestinians have evacuated the north of the Strip in the last 24 hours, fleeing the fighting already raging in the streets of Gaza City.
