Firefighter injured at 2nd Alarm fire, Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania

11:40 hrs. Mount Carmel fire department and surrounding units were alert to a reported working fire at 5th & Hickory, Mount Carmel.
Police were first on scene and confirmed a working fire with everyone out of the building.

Casey McCracken sat on the sidewalk in his slippers, covered in smoke and soot, while watching firefighters extinguish a blaze that tore through his family’s home at 150 S. Hickory St. in Mount Carmel on Wednesday afternoon.
The homeowner Vivian McCracken, confirmed “My son and I were home when it happened,” McCracken said, noting the fire started in the rear of the house on a second-floor porch while they were trying to repair an electrical issue in the home.
The homeowner stated “It wasn’t very big when we left. We weren’t very concerned,” “That’s the astonishing thing about it. It took (firefighters) a while to get here. Because of the time of the day, there just weren’t that many people.” “Thank God Atlas showed up with a full trained crew. They got water to the fire while Anthracite could not figure out what to do!”


Command Mount Carmel Township Chief of Police Brian Hollenbush, confirmed the scene, the fire started on the second floor at the rear of the building and spread to the interior and third floor of the residence.
During the fire, one firefighter was checked for injuries and transported as a precautionary measure due to a fall.

Just before noon Mount Carmel fire department and surrounding units were alert to a reported working fire at 5th & Hickory in town.
Police were first on scene and confirmed a working fire with everyone out of the building.
Due to time of day and the amount of fire showing a second alarm was quickly struck.
During the fire, one firefighter was checked for injuries and transported as a precautionary measure due to a fall.
Firefighters from as far as Catawissa, Shamokin Dam, Danville and Ashland were dispatched to the scene to help control the blaze.
As of this post NO official cause has been determined and the fire and cause are still under investigation.
