STORYLINE:

The sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE) concluded in Shanghai on Friday.

This year, more than 200 U.S. exhibitors have attended the annual import expo, marking the largest U.S. presence in the history of the CIIE.

U.S. businesspersons have expressed their confidence in tapping into new opportunities in China's vast market.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): KEVIN KOLEVAR, Vice-president of global policy and government affairs at Dow
"As the world's leading import-themed exhibition, the CIIE is playing a more prominent role in facilitating trade flow and cultivating investment opportunities.
China is a strategically important market for Dow globally. Our presence in China traces back to the 1970s. Today, China is the largest overseas market for us. We have always been committed to implementing our growth strategy in China, expanding our manufacturing capacity and product lineups to address the growing demands of the high-value downstream markets.
2023 marks the 6th year of CIIE. And Dow is honored to be a regular participant for all of those 6 years. Over the past 5 years, both Dow and the CIIE have been growing with the Chinese market. For Dow, this forum has become an important event in our annual agenda. It is a unique platform for us to showcase our latest technologies and solutions, as well as to engage the Chinese government, our customers and partners."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): FANNY CHEN, Vice president of GM Core Diagnostics China at Abbott
"China boasts such a huge market, with one fifth of the world's population. We will stay committed to the development in China, from innovative technologies to products, and to manufacturing. We will continue to invest in the Chinese market.
Meanwhile, after we develop these products in China, we reciprocate by extending their reach globally, benefiting more patients in other parts of the world."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ZAFER UNLUER, President of Organon China
"CIIE is a such an important event that we were able to engage with many external stakeholders, be able to nourish our relationship with government officials. We truly enjoy being in here because this is not only building this conversation. It's also energizing our organization.
I think it's a great platform, because the nature, the vibe of CIIE definitely reflects the qualities of China's business environment. It's open. It's transparent."

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): LILY DONG, Vice president & general manager of AbbVie China
"Through the platform of the CIIE, AbbVie has witnessed the increasing opening up of China's market. AbbVie's number of employees in China grew from 400 to over 2,200.
The spillover effect of CIIE has brought us extraordinary opportunities. It is a platform for turning exhibits into commodities, allowing us to explore inclusive cooperation opportunities with the Chinese government, enterprises, associations and other organizations."
