STORYLINE:

China's annual "Double 11" shopping festival has seen not only eye-catching sales records but also improved logistics efficiency.

Sales of 402 brands on Alibaba's Tmall platform exceeded 100 million yuan (about 13.7 million U.S. dollars) as of Saturday midnight, while e-commerce giant JD.com announced that more than 60 brands saw their sales topping 1 billion yuan.

Meanwhile, improvements in various sectors, including manufacturing, intelligent collaboration, and transportation infrastructures, helped reduce delivery time.

One of the latest progresses is launching a major smart logistic center built by JD.com in northwest China's Gansu Province. Using fully automated sorting, the 200,000-square-meter new facility could increase efficiency by three to five times.

"During this year's Double 11, our orders in Lanzhou City and surrounding areas can be delivered in half a day at the soonest."

China's "Double 11" shopping festival began in 2009 and has grown into one of the world's largest, with an increasing number of participating retailers and consumers globally.

The rapid development of international logistics and cross-border e-commerce in China has made the shopping spree a shared festival for overseas consumers.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): SUN JUFENG, Head of Reform and Innovation Bureau of the Hunchun Marine Economy Demonstration Zone
"We have grabbed the opportunity of Double 11 to carry out a series of promotion activities. We have invited online influencers and online shopping platforms to do livestreaming during the shopping festival. At the same time, we have also encouraged businesses at the Hunchun Northeast Asia International Shopping Mall to roll out promotion campaigns, offering customers with best discounts. It's expected that our cross-border e-commerce trade volume will reach 5 billion yuan (about 686 million U.S. dollars) this year."
