This is the terrifying moment a huge snake emerged from under the sofa as a woman relaxed in the living room.

CCTV footage shows the cobra poking out of the space under the furniture while the resident was watching television before she noticed it and jumped with fright onto the couch.

She took refuge on top of the seat while holding a broom as she frantically called the local animal rescuers, who later arrived to catch the reptile in her garden.

To add to her shock, as she was busy calling for help, a dog chased a chicken into the home

She said: 'I was so scared, I just stayed inside the bedroom until everything was safe.'

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.
