Footage has emerged from China of fire fighters and workers saving a dog that fell into a six-metre-deep foundation pit at a construction site.

In the video, filmed during the rescue in Jiangsu Province last week, the rescuers can be seen using a variety of methods to get the dog out but all fail, before they finally come up with the idea to hang down a board tied with ropes and chase the animal onto the board to pull them up.

Workers at the site have covered the pit with cloth to prevent more falling accidents, according to local media.
