An enormous avalanche was captured on video as it rumbled down a slope in the Himalayas on September 23rd, 2023. The footage, captured by @Manoj_Kaintura, shows the massive wall of snow detaching from the mountainside and beginning its descent. As the avalanche picks up momentum, it creates a flowing river of snow and kicks up a towering cloud of ice particles. @Manoj_Kaintura explains that avalanches begin when an unstable mass of snow breaks away and accelerates downhill, accumulating more snow as it goes. This particular avalanche in the Himalayas demonstrates the sheer power and danger of these events, as the tumbling snow obliterates everything in its path down the mountain slope.
