A lucky wildebeest escaped a huge crocodile biting down on its tail and dragging it into a river.

Kristin Torres was leading a tour along the Mara River, Tanzania, during the Great Migration when one of the animals became stuck on the shoreline.

Dramatic footage captured the moment an opportunistic crocodile snatched at the wildebeest’s tail and used its incredible jaw strength to pull its prey into the raging rapids.

Incredible the determined wildebeest managed to climb to its feet and wrestled its tail away from the predator and stepped away to safety.

Kristin, who owns Born to Dream Tours, said: “As many times as I have seen attacks and hunts it is never easy. Although tough to witness, excitement is always there.

“This wildebeest was caught between two boulders and was being trampled a bit. He was able to get free and made it back to the shoreline. The rest of the herd moved on.

“The fight carried on for about two hours. We believe it was more of a territorial issue for the crocodile rather than being hungry.

“They typically grab their prey and spin in the water to drown it.

“The crocodile kept biting the wildebeest and letting go, the wildebeest would escape and move on, and the croc would attack again.

“Born to Dream offer all parks in Tanzania, the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Kilimanjaro, Gombe, Ngorongoro, Arusha, etc.

“Tanzania has so many national parks to offer, so we do all custom, private safaris.

“We focus on what the clients want to see, experience and we build their package from there.

“Most of our clients want to witness the Great Migration, which is in the Serengeti, we usually will have them try one other National Park in addition.

“All of the national parks are so incredibly different and unique, we feel it's important for clients to have a good variety of what Tanzania has to offer.”
