Chaos erupted as a runaway pet bird took flight inside a train carriage in southern China.

Video filmed in Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province on November 11 shows a bird making its way into a crowded carriage, weaving through the sea of people, while an elderly man chased after it.

The elderly man brought his pet bird onto the train, and the bird seized the opportunity to embark on an adventure.

Fortunately, the owner managed to capture his avian companion just in the nick of time before the subway pulled into the station and apologised to his fellow passengers for the commotion caused by the bird's unexpected escapade.

The bird weaved in and out of the crowd, trying to find its way out, with a senior gentleman in a checkered shirt chased after it.

It turned out that the old man brought his pet bird on the subway and the bird accidentally snuck out of the bag.
