A wild elephant in heat emerged from the trees and kicked a pickup truck.

The bull named Plai Tiger had blocked a road in a musth-induced rampage at a wildlife sanctuary while searching for a mate in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on November 6.

Park officials tried to drive the jumbo back into the forest, but it responded by approaching their pickup truck and ramming it with its hind leg.

Rangers said Plai Tiger eventually left the area without harming anyone.

Musth is a periodic condition observed in male elephants, characterised by heightened levels of testosterone, aggressive behavior, and increased reproductive activity.

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
