In a vibrant display of festivity, Karachi’s Hindu community came together to celebrate the joyous Hindi festival of Diwali on Sunday 12 November.

Hindus make up a little more than 2% of the population of overwhelmingly Muslim-majority Pakistan, where they have sometimes suffered discrimination and from which many fled during the 1947 partition of India.

Despite this, a relatively small but vibrant Hindu community survives in Pakistan and continues its traditions.

On Sunday, celebrations centred on the Swami Narayan Mandir on MA Jinnah Road in Clifton, and Netty Jetty, with various temples across the city also joining in the jubilation.
