A pet Persian cat was abducted by a passer-by in a quiet neighbourhood in the Philippines.

The beloved feline named September had been out playing on the street for only a few minutes when it was whisked away by a stranger passing through the residential area in Montalban town, Rizal province, on November 12.

Security footage shows the man in a white-and-blue polo lurking in front of resident Mark Cortez's home after spotting September sitting under a car.

He spent a few minutes coaxing out the cat, and was later seen walking along a pavement carrying it in his arms.

Mark is now seeking help to find the catnapper who has not yet been caught.

He said September, who had been with him for three years, had helped him and his family overcome challenging times.

Mark said: 'I just can't understand how someone could be so cruel to steal a family's pet cat. We are missing September so much, we just pray that he will be returned.'

The cat owner said the theft had been reported to police but they have failed to track down the suspect.
