Time-lapse footage of Mayon Volcano spewing lava in the Philippines
The Mayon Volcano in the Philippines spewed lava this month anew amid continued seismic unrest.
Time-lapse footage shows incandescent molten currents flowing from the summit of the 'perfect cone' volcano in Albay province on November 6.
The Philippines seismological agency PHIVOLCS said in a November 6 bulletin that a slow lava effusion reaching up to four kilometres was seen at the volcano. There were also 141 volcanic earthquakes, one pyroclastic density current, and 84 rockfall events recorded.
Mayon, the country's most active volcano, had sparked the evacuation of more than 18,000 people when it rumbled with activity in June.
State volcanologists had hoisted Alert Level 3 indicating a 'high level of unrest' over Mayon Volcano, with the activity leading to a possible hazardous eruption in weeks.
The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
