A rescue team rappelled down a bridge to save a cat that had been stranded on a ledge for five days in Thailand.

Footage shows a volunteer lowering himself on a rope to reach the two-year-old American Curl trapped on the pier of a bridge in Kamphaeng Phet province on November 15.

He grabbed the collared feline and carried it with him as other rescuers hoisted him 13ft up onto the bridge deck. The operation was completed in 30 minutes.

The cat's owner Arayan Wattaseri, 37, said the two-year-old pet had run away from their home around 500 metres away from the bridge.

Despite posting on Facebook about the missing cat, the worried family found no leads on its location - until Arayan's nephew spotted it while he was out fishing on the Ping River.

The relieved fur mum said: 'At first, I thought I would bring a ladder myself to try and rescue my cat. But it looked too dangerous to do it on my own, so I called the rescue team for help.

'I'm glad my pet is safe. She must have jumped off the bridge because the passing cars spooked her.'
