A protest was held today at the University of Nottingham in opposition to claims of support by the university for Israel. The protest was also held after it was claimed that the university had suspended and silenced a number of staff and students who showed solidarity for Palestine. Protests said in a statement that "Universities must sever all research, commercial and institutional partnerships with israel. They must divest from weapons manufacturers which arm israel's genocide in Gaza".

Jewish students Rafie and Jack who were watching the protest told me that it is a scary time and that they often hide signs that they are jewish as they do not feel safe around campus. They were also concerned to hear a intifada chant which is claimed to be in a Hamas charter.

The protest which took place at the portland building at the University of nottingham's city campus was also calling for a ceasefire and an end to israeli occupation.
