Stunning Northern Lights display in Iceland starts faint then goes berserk

A photographer captured the sight of the Northern Lights in Iceland in all their glory on Thursday 16 November.

With Iceland in just the right spot for the Aurora Borealis, the hunt to see the phenomenon is really a hunt for clear night skies, the filmer said.

They said: "I arrived on 15 November in the evening, saw that the south of Iceland was very cloudy so decided to target the north. I drove to the northeast on 16 November, staying in Husavik because of a clear sky forecast, drove a few miles north of Husavik and watched as the Northern Lights appeared."

"It initially started faint and slow but gradually grew big and intense, even over-exposing images at times of full power," they added.

The filmed the timelapse video in 4K resolution with a Canon EOS R6 and the lens was a 7artisans fisheye EF 10mm 2.8.

The sound has been edited and is not the original audio, of which the filmer said: "It was rather calm, no wind, just occasional cars driving by and screams of joy from me and my two skater friends. We are shooting video of them surfskating at night under the northern lights."
