Scooter rider injured as minivan crashes into elevated manhole cover in China
A scooter rider was injured as a minivan crashed into an elevated manhole cover in southern China.
The CCTV footage was filmed in Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province on November 16.
A minivan collided with a protruding manhole cover on a road, causing the rear of the vehicle to crash into a passing scooter.
A staff member from the Aigang Village committee reported that the male cyclist was injured but not in life-threatening condition. He suffered a lumbar spine fracture, slight lung contusions, and partial bone fractures in his foot.
The incident occurred on a road undergoing upgrades and renovations. As part of the construction work, the road was being repaved with asphalt. During this process, the manhole cover was left slightly protruding, leading to the accident.
During daylight hours, traffic control personnel were present to guide vehicles and warn them of the hazard. However, the accident occurred due to the construction team's negligence in failing to establish adequate safety signage at night.
The construction company involved has acknowledged their oversight and is actively coordinating with the parties involved, expressing willingness to provide appropriate compensation for the damages caused.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
