Uttarkashi tunnel collapse: 40 workers still trapped, American drilling machine breaks down
The American auger machine being used to rescue workers trapped in the collapsed tunnel in Uttarkashi, India, broke down on Friday 17 November.
The rescue operation was stopped for some time on Friday afternoon.
NHIDCL Director Anshu Manish Khalko said efforts are under way to push a pipe through the collapsed tunnel through which workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel can get out.
So far, 24m of pipe has been laid through the debris.
Another backup auger machine is being shipped from Indore, to minimise downtime when one breaks down.
