Panic as sharks circle woman who jumped off boat in the Bahamas
Onlookers were panicked after a woman who went down a water slide was circled by a shiver of nurse sharks in the Bahamas.
Footage from July 2021 shows the moment Maru Mendez entered the sea and was immediately surrounded by the sharks.
Mendez told Newsflare: "During a trip to the Bahamas I went down a water slide and when I reached the ocean a bunch of nurse sharks started to swim towards me, and I heard my friends screaming and laughing (they knew the sharks were harmless but they wanted to freak me out).
"I swam as fast as I could because I freaked out either way. The current was very strong and I had a hard time reaching the boat."
Nurse sharks are considered fairly harmless to swimmers and divers though they do bear rows of thousands of serrated teeth.
