Leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members concluded their meetings in San Francisco on Friday, with an aim to build a more interconnected, innovative, and inclusive APEC region.
Observers from different countries said that China-U.S. relations are crucial to multilateral cooperation around the world to address many challenges.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): AARON JED RABENA, Research Fellow of Manila-based Asia-Pacific Pathways to Progress Foundation
"APEC, as a platform, is useful for the U.S. and China. So it's important to continue to carve out ways for the U.S. and China and the other APEC members to carve out functional and pragmatic areas of cooperation.
So if the two most important countries in the world have a cooperative attitude towards each other, then that would mean that they can together help solve other problems that exist."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): GULRU GEZER, Former Turkish diplomat and foreign policy analyst
"I think it was very important, of course, to de-escalate certain misunderstandings, especially at a time when we see wars in different areas of the world."
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): SELCUK COLAKOGLU, Director of Ankara-based Turkish Centre for Asia-Pacific Studies
"There are many uncertain challenges. So the global trade, global investments, and regional and global economic interactions are strained by these difficulties. Diplomacy and also multilateral and bilateral frameworks to talk certain issues are very important to settle the issues."
