Terrifying moment dilapidated building collapses forcing residents to flee in China
A 7-storey dilapidated building collapsed forcing residents to flee in southern China.
CCTV footage filmed in Fuzhou City in Jiangxi Province on November 19 shows two boys running into a shop as a building suddenly collapsed.
The strong smoke rose up and engulfed the shop shortly.
The Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of Nanfeng County issued a statement, reassuring that the collapsed building was unoccupied at the time, with no reported casualties.
According to the official report, the structure, built in 1993 with a brick and concrete foundation, had been flagged for safety concerns in May 2022. After a third-party assessment categorised it as Class C in terms of safety, immediate measures, including evacuation, water and power shutdowns, and the installation of barricades and warning lines, were implemented.
Presently, coordinated efforts are underway to manage the aftermath and address the situation in an organised manner.
