An excavator unearthed a huge python that was sleeping in a hollow under the dirt.

Footage shows the digging bucket combing through wet soil, exposing the slithering snake in its underground nest in Songkhla province, Thailand, on November 11.

The 10ft-long serpent tried to resist as the worker pulled it off the ground but was eventually removed.

It slithered and disappeared under weed overgrowth on the edge of the garden that the property owner asked to be cleaned.

Wirot Theppawan said: ‘We found the large snake while clearing the garden.'

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
