A Buddhist monk rescued a stray dog with her head stuck in a large clay jar in Thailand.

Phra Kru Sophon Panyasan, abbot at the Wat Nikhom Phatthanaram temple in Satun province, heard the pooch named Daeng's cries on November 17.

When he went over to check the cause of the noise, he found the stray with her head trapped in the container.

Footage shows Daeng struggling to free herself while her canine friend tried its best to free her. Sophon fetched a wrench and used to smash open the jar.

He said: 'Daeng must have stuck her head inside while looking for food. She's been at this temple since she was a puppy. I used to allow her to sleep in front of my cell at the monastery, but I don't anymore since she started going to the toilet there.'

The monk added that Daeng liked to steal his shoes, and he has already lost three pairs to her.

Thailand, a largely Buddhist nation, believes that kindness towards animals should be encouraged, with temples sometimes being a safe refuge for stray cats, dogs, and even monkeys that don't have homes.
