Schoolchildren scatter as crazed sickle-wielding man rampages through school in Thailand
This is the dramatic moment schoolchildren scattered when a sickle-wielding man rampaged through their school in Thailand.
The youngsters were holding their morning assembly when the crazed local rode his motorcycle into the Ban Nam Phu Hin Lard School in Chaiyaphum province at around 8:30 am on November 22.
CCTV footage shows terrified kids and staff fleeing as the man left his motorbike and went berserk, running around and brandishing his weapon. The pupils and teachers were able to hide inside their classrooms.
The man was later seen exiting the campus and was reported to have holed up in his residence just in front of the school.
Authorities said one teacher was treated for minor injuries.
Following the attack, Khon San District police, rescue volunteers, and medics converged on the man's house to arrest him. They managed to convince him to surrender after an hour.
Police said he was transported to the Khon San Hospital. Local authorities said they were planning to bring mental health experts into the school to help the children and staff process the incident.
Lieutenant Colonel Surachai from the Khon San Police Station said: 'Officers responded quickly and caught the suspect, so the children were never in danger. The teachers were trained to deal with this kind of situation and they were professional and calm.'
