Absolute poverty strikes almost 10% of the population in Italy, threatening one in four inhabitants, warns the Caritas 2023 Report on Poverty and Social Exclusion, entitled "All to Lose".

The study argues that "almost thirty years after the first edition of the Report, it can be said that the phenomenon of poverty has completely changed in terms of numbers and social profiles," reported the Italian news agency ANSA.

According to Caritas data, "there are more than 5.6 million absolute poor, 357 thousand more than in 2021, equivalent to 9.7% of the population: one in ten residents today does not have access to a decent standard of living. It is now a structural phenomenon and no longer residual as in the past".

This video illustrates homeless people on the streets of Rome, Italy.
