Watch how syrup is made from osmanthus flowers in China
Watch how syrup was made from bright yellow osmanthus flowers in China.
The freshly harvested blossoms were cleaned with pistils carefully removed before it was soaked in sugary water in Sichuan province on October 9.
Footage shows the sweetened petals being towel-dried and put in jars before they were steamed.
Another version of cooking the syrup is by directly boiling it in a pot and storing it in glass containers, although the syrup is not as thick as the first one.
Small amounts of salt, honey, and lemon could be added to the syrup, depending on the maker's preference.
The osmanthus is a small four-petaled flower with a diameter of about 5 millimetres. It typically has a white, pale yellow, or yellow colour and produces a sweet, fragrant aroma that is often described as similar to jasmine or orange blossom.
