This is the terrifying moment a snake sparked panic when it slithered into a supermarket in Thailand.

The reptile was spotted gliding along the sidewalk in the town of Hat Yai in Songkhla province in the south of the country near Malaysia on November 20.

It entered the 7-Eleven convenience store when the sliding door opened and was seen surging toward a customer's feet as she was paying at the counter.

Shocked filmer Boom Tharawut said he failed to capture what happened next since he began yelling at the scared shoppers to move out of the snake's way.

He said: 'When the snake slithered in, I yelled, and the people in the store were startled and ran and scattered. I couldn't take pictures because of the chaos.

'The snake looked a lot like a cobra, but I'm not sure what kind of snake it is. It almost bit a person. It's good that I was able to shout first.

'Both the snake and the people were in panic. I only stayed in the store for around three minutes so I don't know how they dealt with the snake after that. But when I passed by again, it was business as usual.'

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
