Forest officials rescue elephant after it falls into pond in southern India
An elephant that fell into the pond while drinking water was rescued by the forest department in southern India's Tamil Nadu.
The incident took place in Madukkarai forest range in Coimbatore on November 23.
Video showed the poor animal struggling in the agricultural pond.
Fortunately, the Madukkarai Range patrolling team, part of the Coimbatore Forest Division led by Forest Range Officer Mrs P. Santhiya, had quickly mobilised an excavator to help rescue the pachyderm.
The excavator dug a passageway to allow the jumbo to climb out, after which the young elephant headed towards the jungle to rejoin the herd waiting nearby.
