In a series of events on Cute Court, deputies responded to an assault report on Sunday afternoon. Phillip McGraw, a known acquaintance of the victim, allegedly entered the victim's garage, instigating an argument that escalated into physical violence. McGraw, along with his stepfather, James Jones, fled from law enforcement after deputies attempted a traffic stop.

A chase ensued, leading to McGraw's attempt to escape on foot and eventually swimming through multiple canals. Law enforcement caught up with him behind a residence on Crandell Court, resulting in his arrest for Burglary of a Dwelling, Simple Battery, Petit Theft, and Resisting an Officer Without Violence. McGraw is held on a $32,500 bond.

Jones was also arrested for Resisting an Officer Without Violence but was released after posting a $500 bond. Sheriff Staly emphasized the consequences of attempting to flee law enforcement, remarking on the unfortunate family trip to jail before Thanksgiving.
