In response to significant damage incurred during recent earthworks, Vegageroin, in collaboration with local contractors, is diligently executing temporary repairs on roads leading to and within Grindavik. The harsh conditions have left certain roads in a precarious state, prompting daily assessments of their condition.

These interim repairs are imperative for the safety of Grindvikings, emergency responders, and civil defense, ensuring accessibility in case of an evacuation. Some areas exhibit cavities beneath the roads, while others have experienced partial disintegration. Widespread damage to road shoulders further underscores the urgency of these measures.

While plans for permanent repairs are underway, the current earthworks must be completed before commencement. Additionally, the Road Administration has undertaken de-icing efforts on critical routes, such as Grindavikurveg and Suourstrandaveg west of Krysuvikurvegar, though caution is advised due to slush and slippery spots. It's crucial to note that access to these roads is restricted without a special permit.
