Surfers and bodyboarders with nerves of steel braved waves of up to 50ft (15m) off Hawaii on Black Friday and the next day.

There was a High Surf Warning in effect on November 24 and 25 as waves of 40-50ft pounded the north and west-facing shores of Hawaii's islands.

Local and pro big-wave watermen and women, who train for these conditions, took their chances on taking the ride of a lifetime despite the dangers.

The video, captured at Waimea Bay on November 24, and Banzai Pipeline on November 25, showed one surfer wiping out on a huge wave.
