STORYLINE:

Israel and Hamas reached a four-day humanitarian cease-fire starting on Friday under mediation by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States after more than six weeks of bloody conflict in Gaza.

Based on the truce agreement, Hamas will free some hostages in exchange for some Palestinian prisoners held in Israel, while Israel will allow more aid trucks loaded with food, fuel, and cooking gas to enter the war-ridden enclave.

Since Friday, more than 500 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid, including food, medical equipment and water, as well as fuel and cooking gas, have entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing, according to the United Nations reports.

As Gazans have been waiting in long queues for necessities such as food and fuel, some say they are still in severe shortage of supplies.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): Gaza resident
"I came here to get gas so that I could start the car, so if anything happens after the truce, such as a bombing or anything else, we could go to the hospital by car. Without gas, we have to rely on carriage or donkey carts, and it is our only option. It takes an hour to get to the hospital by carriage, while in normal times it takes 15 minutes."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): Gaza resident
"We have been standing here for two days to get gas, and we have been standing for a long time. As you can see, we cannot get anything here. We hope that they bring in diesel and gas. We want life to continue. We want to live. Now there is no sugar and no life. We are destitute, deprived of everything in Gaza."

Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Gaza.
