STORYLINE:
Hong Kong designer Alan's impressive design works can be found across the world, and he has been dedicated himself to bridging the East and West through art fusion.
Over 50 years as an artist and with more than 600 awards from Hong Kong and international competitions, Chan describes his life as an exploratory journey of creation and collection across the East and West.
At the age of 20, Chan, without any prior knowledge of "design," began his career as an assistant apprentice in an advertising company.
Through hands-on experience, he worked in various foreign-funded advertising companies in Hong Kong, honing his skills in the industry for nearly a decade. This experience became a turning point for him, opening up a new window of opportunity and laying the foundation for his future artistic concept of "blending Chinese and Western styles."
At the age of 30, Chan and his wife established their first advertising company in Hong Kong. Over time, they incorporated Chan's interpretation of traditional Chinese culture into their artistic designs. The fusion of Chinese and Western cultures in Hong Kong gave birth to Chan's creative style, which he calls "Eastern sentiment and Western charm."
Constantly traveling between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, Chan has witnessed the progress and development of the country. He marvels at the flourishing art market in the mainland, seeing limitless prospects for the future.
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): ALAN CHAN, Hong Kong designer
"This may be my sense of mission. I feel that after more than 20 years of traveling to the mainland, I have a responsibility to use a commercial perspective to showcase Chinese culture in my products and works. Whenever I have the opportunity, I would take the chance to showcase the essence of Chinese culture."
