A plane passenger got a spectacular view of the inside of a thunderstorm shortly after take-off from Mumbai, India, on Monday 26 November.

But the stunning view came as at least 24 people were confirmed to have died in storms that hit Gujarat, into which the plane was flying at the time.

They were killed in heavy rain, lightning and even hailstorms in the west of the state.

Despite the grim toll of death and damage on the ground, the view from inside the plane was still something to behold.

The frequent-flying filmer said: "I have never seen a thunderstorm from inside the clouds. It looked like an animation or graphics production but it was real life."

Describing how lightning lights up the clouds every few seconds in the dark sky over Mumbai, he added: "It remained like this for several minutes until the plane flew past it."

"I’ve travelled by air so many times but have never seen anything like this before."

He ended with a thought that might strike many viewers of the nearly silent video too: "I was amazed how everyone in the plane was so calm."
