Palm tree claimbers celebrated the festival of light by burning movali in traditional method in south india
Palm tree claimbing workers living in Purikudisai village near Vikravandi in Villupuram district celebrated the Karthika Deepa festival with enthusiasm. this festival of light involves lighting up to put an end to darkness. On this occasion, waving of Mavoli ceremony was held according to the traditional method by lighting a lamp in a huge silver lamp. More than 50 people gathered at one place and circulated the Mavoli, a natural crackers made of palm wood products.
Then sparks flew in various shapes from Mavoli, surprising the onlookers.
In Narasinghapuram village next to Kanjanur in Villupuram district a palm tree claimbing labour Panayeri Pandyan prepares Mavoli in the traditional way.
The flower of the male palm tree is plucked and dried. then they make charcoal from it. then wrapped the charcoal in a cloth. Then he prepares this Mavoli in the traditional way with a palm stick. while the fire wood is burning, people take it and circle it, crating a beautiful circular display called mavoli. they are conducting this festival to raise awarness about the use of palm trees which are endangered and to revive the dying palm industry in the state.
