This is the moment a toddler went on a baggage belt ride at an airport in Chile.

The three-year-old boy had escaped from his parents and crept past a check-in counter at the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago on November 16.

The youngster walked onto the conveyor belt and was whisked away into the secure baggage area only accessible by airport staff. He was seen staring at his surroundings during the ride before personnel were alerted to his presence.

Two workers scrambled to the side of the conveyor belt and managed to grab him as he slid their way. The boy was safely reunited with his guardians after the joyride that lasted a few minutes.

Airport authorities said they were unsure how the child had slipped past security, adding they will strengthen security measures to prevent a similar occurrence.

In a statement, an airport spokesperson said: 'We are gathering all information to determine how this situation occurred and we will strengthen security measures and protocols with airline operators to prevent it from happening again.'
