Heroic firefighters rescued two boys from a frozen river in northern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Baotou in Inner Mongolia on November 26.

Two teenagers had fallen through the ice while playing on the surface of the Xiaobai River. Without a second to lose, the local fire station deployed a team of 10 in two vehicles, rushing to the harrowing scene.

Upon arrival, they saw the two boys trapped in an icy hole, with locals frantically holding onto a plastic rope tied around them, which could snap at any moment.

The commander quickly instructed a firefighter to don a life vest, connect himself with a safety rope to his colleagues onshore, and cautiously approach the boys, testing the ice's strength with a probe.

Realising the fragility of the ice near the boys, the rescuer adopted a belly-crawl approach, carefully edging closer. Meanwhile, he called for a two-section ladder to be brought over. This ladder, by increasing contact with the ice, would be crucial in aiding the boys' escape.

As one boy clung to the ladder, the other, exhausted, lost his grip and plunged into the icy water – a terrifying development. A firefighter immediately crawled near the hole, directing his team to use the ladder to rescue the first boy while he dived in to protect the second. They then used a safety rope to help both to safety.

Once safe, the rescuer quickly removed the boys' soaked clothing and wrapped them in cotton coats. With their parents absent, he accompanied them to the hospital, constantly rubbing their hands and feet to stimulate circulation and calm their nerves.

Thankfully, the boys regained consciousness and were handed over to their parents, waiting for further medical checks.
