Classes started in Venezuela last October with a collapsed education system. In addition to student desertion, precarious working conditions and building failures, there is a lack of teachers. A situation that is seen as a serious problem for the next ten years.

With the beginning of the school year, the government of Nicolas Maduro highlighted that more than 8 million students returned to the classrooms progressively, in a "Venezuela that wants more education and culture, which is the road to happiness". However, the reality is different and with a devastating future.

During the first days of classes, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) and the National Police (PNB) were present in the schools due to the teachers' salary claims and in order to verify the attendance of the few personnel that continue working.

In the absence of official data, reports from different organizations indicate that thousands of teachers abandoned their posts in search of better opportunities abroad, which has generated a shortage of qualified educators and has negatively impacted the quality of education. This situation poses a serious obstacle for the academic development of Venezuelan students and the future of the next generations.

This video illustrates various shots of teacher protests in Caracas, Venezuela on the 17th of January, 2023.
