A local shopping mall's anniversary celebration turned into a scene of chaos as a massive 10-metre-long cake intended for a grand celebration became the centre of a frenzied scramble in eastern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Linyi in Shandong Province on November 26.

The mall, celebrating its 11th anniversary, decided to mark the occasion by creating this enormous cake and distributing it free to customers. This annual tradition, aimed at spreading joy and marking the mall's milestone, quickly spiralled out of control due to the overwhelming crowd.

The mall's staff had initially envisioned a festive atmosphere where customers could help themselves to a piece of the celebratory cake. However, the sheer number of people made it challenging to maintain order.

As a result, what was meant to be a controlled distribution turned into a chaotic free-for-all, with customers clambering to get a piece of the cake.

A mall employee expressed mixed feelings about the event. While they were happy to celebrate the mall's birthday with such a large crowd, the unanticipated disorder cast a shadow over the celebration.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
